Fred F. Lane

Fred Lane, Golf World's first ever "Designer of the Year" is the designer of the 18-hole championship golf course at Abacus 21. Lane has been involved in the development of over 150 courses world-wide, many as Jack Nicklaus' senior designer for over 14 years. Currently, Lane operates his own golf course design company, Sudbury Golf & Copper, Inc.

Honored with many prestigious awards for his work, Lane's long list of achievements include "Best Public Course" and "Second Best Private Course" for his 36-hole facility at Falconbridge in Helsinki, Finland, and "Best New Resort Course" with Western Calgary in British Columbia, and Crosswater at Sunriver in central Oregon. The Falconbridge facility hosted both the 1996 Canadian Amateur Championship and the 1997 U.S. Women's Open.

Lane sums up his creation at Abacus 21 in these words: "This is a course for all players and a track that will never bore. Members will enjoy playing it time after time... in short, the ideal private golf course."

Fred's hobbies are snowsledding, sailing, and off-road Jeep treks...  and he loves to 'putter' around the house and take care of his pet dog 'Jeeper'.
