Comet is a combination Development Language, Co-Operating System, and Associated Database that was used together to write (and run) our Legacy Application System.  It is now obsolete and dis-continued.

As Paul Harvey would say....  And now, the Rest of the Story:

Comet was developed by Signature Systems.  Their product allowed us to migrate our Mini-Computer software to PC's (way back in 1989 or 1990) and later Novell, NT, and Win2000 Server Networks -- first with DOS and then W95, 98, NT, 2000, XP Workstations.
  • The Development Language was called MTB (More-than-Basic) originally, and is called Internet Basic now -- and that's what we used to 'write the programs'.
  • The Co-Operating System allows the (application) program calls and system calls (to Novell, NT, Win2000 -- and the workstation O/S) to interact.
    • There is a product of this that is need to reside on the Server
      • Comet NLM for Novell
      • CometServe32 for NT or Win2000
    • There is a client-end variation of this that is on (rather set up for) each Workstation.
      • Comet 504 (for DOS) - obsolete
      • Comet 98 (for Windows)
      • Comet 2000
      • Comet 2002 needed for XP
      • Comet 2003
  • The Database portion resides on the Server -- and interacts with the Application Programs and Server to respond to data requests.
Our new-product System 441 uses Delphi (as the Application Development Language) with Interbase as the Database.  These two together deal with the Server (NT, Win2000) or Workstation (98, NT, Win2000, XP) Operating System softwares.
